New Drummer!

For those who haven't heard:

During the past few weeks, BROTHERS PAST has been performing at some of the biggest festivals in the country. In many ways, our set at Bonnaroo last Sunday marked a high point for us. It was absolutely exhilarating to watch the size of the audience swell with each passing song, until the field in front of us was teeming with people. So if you were there, if you were watching at home, or if you've tracked down a copy of the webcast of our set, thanks for listening!

After years of performing together, the band will be undergoing a metamorphosis this summer. Our drummer, Rick Lowenberg, has always been interested in law and environmental activism, and the time has finally come for him to pursue his other ambitions. We hope he finds success in his chosen career, and we know that ultimately he will go on to help make the world a better place to live in. Thank you, Rick, for the wonderful years you devoted to the band.

There are two shows remaining under the band's current lineup. On Friday, June 23, the band sets sail on the Big F'ing Boat IV in NYC for our only full two-set performance of the summer. Tickets are still available, but going fast. This will obviously be a historic show. We are also pleased to announce another big show to end the first half of 2006. On Wednesday, June 28, BROTHERS PAST will open for the Dave Matthews Band on the second stage, at the Tweeter Center in Camden, NJ. Our set begins when the doors open at 6 PM, and it will run approximately an hour. Gomez will follow, before the headliner, on the main stage. July begins a new era for the band and we are very excited about the future. On July 13, at The All Good Music Festival, Ilya Stemkovsky will make his debut as BROTHERS PAST's new drummer. The band is thrilled about finding a player of his caliber and commitment available. Ilya is a well-accomplished, powerful drummer, who was the driving force behind the OM Trio. He's been hard at work learning the band's music, and after playing with him, there is plenty of reason for optimism and the chemistry was apparent. All Good promises to be an evening to ring in the new, and there is more in store. In keeping with the spirit of the night, we will be performing a second, specially-themed Radiohead/Pink Floyd set, in between performances of Radiodread and Dub Side of the Moon. We look forward to seeing all our friends and fans there on this exciting night.

Finally, we'd also like to remind people that Tom Hamilton's American Babies will be playing a showcase at the World Cafe Live this Saturday night in Philadelphia. The lineup includes Jim Hamilton, Joe Russo (The Duo), Kevin Kendricks (Fat Mama) and Moira Cohen. Doors open at 6PM for this seated event with table service provided. Patrons are still able to purchase their tickets online and you have the ability to select your seats here. The band Illinois will follow, bringing their eclectic and slightly reminiscent of Ween approach to the stage. These guys are worth coming out for. Gomez the Band!!

I dont know if anyone on here likes Gomez or even has heard of them, but they are a GREAT band. They will also be at Bonnaroo this summer.

Underrated songs

I don't even know if it's underrated or not (I don't get to talk about BP much) but I'm really digging Up In Arms. What's the general consensus about this tune?

Another tidbit about this song is that I always seem to confuse it with Bottlecap when it's being jammed into from another song. Then it gets to a certain point and I'm like, "ahhh, Up In Arms... sweet." I like it much more than Bottlecap.

Am I the only one who thinks set I (time capsule) is BY FAR the best set of the 3? Perhaps it's because they were the most sober for it. Perhaps it's because I like hearing the old songs get "updated", so to speak. I dunno... the rest of the show kinda lost me. But I think the first set is hot... it only really loses steam at the end.

What I don't dig

Bear with me, folks... it ain't much:

- Overusage of the "triangle" (although it's not so bad lately), the "quacking duck" and the "wobbly saw" sounds. A lot of times I'm like, "enough already!"... to me, it can get a little annoying.
- Overabundance of Dead-influenced jams. I was never really into the Dead so it's just not something I want/need to hear.

Other than that, I'm completely enthralled by this band. When is the midwest gonna get some more lovin'? And if anyone wants to set up a trade, my meager BP list can be found at http://www.phishhook.com/lists/habeef

The song that started it all?

So which song would you say began BP's movement towards electronica? The first one that I recall that seemed different than the rest was Machine. I remember downloading a version a long time ago and thinking it was strange (especially cause it didn't sound like their older songs), but cool.

I guess Planets was another early one that had some electronic influences in the form of screeches and squeals. Now look at the boys! They're all growns up.

I figured that tribe.net might be a good way to spread BP's music to folks that don't have friends with hard drives full of BP shows. I think the broader a band's fanbase is the better it is for all involved (except for w00ks...haha) so i would hope to introduce some people that are into other types of music to BP and do some B&Ps and what not....ya dig??

Plus, it's just another place for us to talk about BP instead of Phantasy Tour or the BPosse. :)

on that note...who has the Halloween and Knitting Factory shows handy that would like to set up some kind of trade??
